So now I am 3 weeks and 15 episodes into my podcast, and seems like I have reached the whopping audience of 7 people.
Most of the listeners (3) access the podcast via spotify, whreas 1 comes from apple podcasts (I know, it’s my wife and lives with me) and the others come from random different applications.
The average listening time is 9.2 minutes. Which kinda make me think that
- People have the attention span of a goldfish, hence I wonder how do people that have a 2 hours podcast manage to keep their audience engaged (and also explains why Tim Ferris spends the first 3 minutes of his podcast doing the rounds of sponsors)
Or
- My podcast is so bloody boring that I need to change the format, my voice, the graphics, the app and the carpet in my bedroom. And I need to get a cat. Which is not going to change the quality of the podcast but at least it is going to silently keep me company. (and judge me)
As for the episodes themselves, the Italian episodes are essentially a complete flop.
The most popular episodes are the one I did on Brexit (which was also one of the shortest) and the first in the list of the “Financial management Mondays” on Working capital, with a whopping 26 downloads.(Yep, that’s 26, not 26 thousands. Not even 2600. 26. Less than the people I had in my high school class in Rome).
So what I have learnt so far?
Not much. But doing the podcast is fun, so I will continue.
Seems by the number that the biggest barrier to connect to my audience are not, as I thought, my terrible English accent or the mediocre quality of the audio (I am using my smartphone to record) rather I need to work a bit on the topics (content needs to be technical, but not too much or it needs to be about current event, but not too obvious).
And I need to understand how the heck to promote this podcast, else I will reach 100 listeners sometimes in 2041.
Keep listening people…(please,please, pretty please….)
